The Coast is Clear! 03/31/2010
Landed in my inbox this morning from Thrillist... Wouldn't these be INCREDIBLY perfect of Venice circa 1910? All the little canals could fill up- as you enjoy a frosty sweaty Mojito in the summer sun? Greatest. Can't wait to spend the weekend in a rented boat on the canals doing JUST THAT! Add Comment Standard Happy Hour Mystery Solved 03/30/2010
Not all of those who live in Venice, WORK in Venice, which is why these "on the way home" happy hours are so very important. Just in time for summer, the Standard Hollywood ( not Downtown, damn it Dina!) has kicked off a new weekday happy hour, which should keep me occupied until the Getty starts up their heartbreakingly easy " Fridays Off the 405". Monday- Friday 5:00-7:00 1/2 price apps and drinks, POOLSIDE. So go get sauced at sundown to ease the pain of the (rest of ) commute home, or stroll over to the Mondrian's Sky Bar and have a laugh at all the Try- Hards strutting and puffing in true LA style. It's Time to Drink! 03/26/2010
It's been quite a week for the VHH ladies and we haven't been as attentive to our bar schedule as usual, but we promise to get back on the horse, er, back on the wagon... next week. In the meantime I hope you've been using the guide happily above and to quell a rumor- I just called the Standard Hotel rooftop and there ain't no Happy Hour! I read it too...not sure. anyway...at least the pool and the sunshine are free. Get one of these watches so you know when it's time to drink, AND you can pop your boyfriend's beer. Sip in Spain & Run to High 03/19/2010
Two notable events going on this weekend. Chi Chi filling in again for Queen VHH until her return from NYC on Sunday. I've never been to Spain, but that doesn't mean a girl can't daydream while sipping on a trio of Spanish wines for $10!! Not to mention fresh baked bread courtesy of 3 Square Cafe. Pop in and escape to España at Elvino from 1pm-closing. No reservations required. I'm not much of a runner...ok, I'm not AT ALL a runner, but there are many other brave people who've committed to a lot of running this Sunday for the LA Marathon. And naturally, after an exercise, one gets thirsty, no? Lucky for you, High at Hotel Erwin is looking out for the thirsty. On Sunday, bring your bib or finisher's medal to the bar and they'll give you a bucket o' six beers or bottomless Bloody Marys for two for $26.20. BUT! The window of opportunity only exists from 12p-3p. Need I say more?? Finish the race AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Good luck to all!! I'll be running to the bar!! Women Seeking Paradise City 03/17/2010
Chi Chi signing in… Yes…I’m using a Guns & Roses reference in the title. (Jezz, don’t kill me.) The song was blasting in my iPod, which quickly became my inspiration behind today’s post. “Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the girls are pretty!!” My interpretation: “Take me to the ultimate happy hour where the drinks are cheap and the boys are cute!!” Ok, I know it takes a second to digest, or maybe I’m the only cheesy one who sees this analogy, but play along for a sec. On Sunday night, Jezzand I started our happy hour expedition at the usual Sunday spot, Chaya, with our $6 Slingchi Martini and Juicy Fusion. The drinks were fresh and fruity, but the very crowded bar was missing a few hopeful cuties to keep us planted the rest of the night. Off to the next…after a few bar drive-by’s, we landed at Nikki’s. Has anyone ever been Sunday night? Let’s just say...it’s the perfect spot if you're looking to dance off any weekend overeating with a techno beat and a dance floor. Guess the peeps were there for more than just the daily 4-7pm happy hour. After Nikki’s, it was much too early to retire for the night, so we did a few more drive-by’s, but this time in Santa Monica. We passed a cozy little dark room called Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar that was calling our names. We must have stumbled in on a bday party because there was a cake meant to feed about 80 people perched on the table. It took everything in me not to walk by and snatch a slice of chocolate cake w/ chocolate frosting, but alas, the wine playground kept me busy. We missed their happy hour sesh, but took note that Monday is ALL NIGHT, and Tues-Fri is 4-7pm. ($5 drinks & $4 eats) Snacks include mini kobe dogs and a truffle mac & cheese. 3 tastes of vino later, out the door to the next.. Ok peeps, are you still with me?? I know this is quite a long write, but bear with me, we had such a full night and I don’t want to leave out any details. Our last destination was just across the street at Boa Steakhouse. The HH budget allowed us to sit at the bar in this beautiful, upscale restaurant and order a fancy glass of something. And just as we’re about to do so, the bartender tells us all bottles are half price on Sunday nights! There were no more words needed at that point. A bottle of prosecco and an order of fries on the way…we were happy. I did one last visual scour of the night for any potentials to seduce with my “weapons of mass destruction” (as J calls them), but none in sight. My Paradise City: Cheap happy hour with cute dudes to flirt with. There you have it. Your eyes and your ears….Chi Chi signing off… Wonderful Wonderful $1 Wine 03/13/2010
As promised, I am " aggregating" yet again. In the current state of affairs, the closest I come to getting a cheap cold drink is opening my refrigerator door... but do not worry, I won't abandon you (just ask my therapist) NO MATTER WHAT. So I am passing you along to some chicks who call themselves Finer Things LA that I have never personally met, but do love their style. If you follow me on Twitter then you’ve gotten some of their re-tweeted wizeness. They tipped me (and most of greater Los Angeles) off to a $1 wine special in Santa Monica. Yes, I know it’s not Venice, but the extra 1 /4 mile on your bike will make up for all those calories from the 4 glasses of $1 wine you are about to chug. The Chi-Chi will be on duty next week, so look forward to a bit of insight from my Cocktail Ninja. xo A Philanthropic Beer & a View of the Pier 03/09/2010
Getting ready for your taxes and need just one more write-off, AND YOU WANT A FREE BEER? Perfect. Consider it done! Tomorrow ( Wednesday) at Ford's Filling Station Happy Hour (5-7PM) buy a ticket to Taste of a Nation and Ben Ford will buy you a beer. So for $25 bucks you get a ticket to graze, you save children's lives, save money on your taxes and get a free beer from a celebrity off-spring. Doesn't charity feel great? Gosh, I'm feeling a bit drunk! Spring is only 11 days away people, and for those of us who work 9 to 5 this means one very important thing: SUNSET . Not the street, the moment...back to be appreciated over a glass of wine instead of missed completely from the confines your cube. Il Fornaio has got a key spot, an outdoor patio with full on ocean views just overlooking the Santa Monica Pier, and while the sun sinks, you can enjoy $3 beers, $5 cocktails and vino, and if you can't wait for dinner, $5 pizzas as well. Your window of opportunity is 4:30-6:30 weekdays, so grab your sunnies and punch the gas- there's a free show every night . I am not going to BORE you with the litany of reasons I am going to be a little absent from the bar this month, (mega drafting project for school, mega ass back in yoga , taxes, NYC trips and oh yeah, MY JOB) so I hope you don't mind me aggregating ( fancy internet word for stealing!) info for you in March. By this time I hope you've signed up for Blackboard Eats, cause if you did- you know you've got 22 hours to get a special code getting you a FREE BOTTLE OF WINE at Sona, which you will need darling, as the entrees start at $39. With a Michelin star; Angeleno’s first-ever five-star rating- I suspect it might be worth the indulgence. Locally, we've got the potential for an new bar (YEY!) on Abbot Kinney- just next to the Other Room (OR) and run by the same peeps. I don't know if they will have local gangsters checking ID's too, but they promise, beer, wine and if-it's-organic-we-sell-it(enough already!) EVERYTHING 7AM-3 AM daily! Check out the FB page for Local 1250 and get in on the action, and lets all pray it will be an overdue replacement for the gaping hole left in many of our lives since Stroh's closed. My hangover routine anxiously awaits the reappearance of the Breakfast Burrito. I was so well behaved this weekend until Sunday... The Nice Queen and I were dedicated to being detoxifyingly healthy , going to the Korean Spa to get our bodies steamed and our souls scrubbed by surly women in black underwear but then...THE SUN CAME OUT. Foiled everything. We, er, went to the pool at the Viceroy instead and played human solar panels for a few hours, while splashing around in a couple of drinks. We could have stopped there. We should have stopped there. Instead, we stopped at Lula Mexicana where we triangulated with ChiChi for Sunday Happy Hour. I know I ordered at least 4 glasses of Chard, but I am not sure how many ended up getting knocked over ( thanks goodness I was still wearing my bikini!). Lula was kinda packed with like-minded Sunday Sippers being waited on by some of the cutest cheeriest staff- evidentially- they love drunk people here!!! Atop the bar in a giant glossy glass container, Temptation presented itself in a new form: Strawberry-infused tequila. According to the adorable man who was alternately bringing us drinks and mopping them up- it wasn't ready ye t “Come back on Tuesday" ( Really, you want us back here?) but since Chi would be gone to Milano...he snuck us out a few berries to suck on. Incrediblé. So today is Tuesday….anyone want to guess where I’m headed? Sunday at Lula is la bomba... | TWITTER: VeniceHappyHrJOIN ME ON THE BOOK OF FACE
