Sunday Sippin' a Liquid Brunch 05/28/2010
Hooray for High! Everyone's favorite rooftop cocktail-in-the-sun spot is getting in the Happy Hour game. Chi and I have spent much too much dosh on $12 glasses of chard up here- trying to justify the bill to our budget with the ol' " but the sunshine and view are free" philosophy. Sundays, instead of going to church, go to High, where you can get 8 stories closer to the Almighty and enjoy the view of all his glory, with a bottomless glass of Jesus Juice in your paw. Liquid Brunch From 11:00 am - 3:00 pm get an app and bottomless mimosas or bloody marys ( or both thank you very much) for $29.99. Bon Weekend! Add Comment PS- pool party Sunday at the ShangriLa 05/27/2010
According to the RunDown.. admission is free ( always is) and there will be a" bikini fashion show". No mention of free/cheap drinks so... swim at your own risk. MORE HERE Laughing at Drunk People 05/27/2010
Yes, we have been a little absent this week and will continue in our hiatus over the weekend. The HH team is splitting their time between SF and HK, so you are left to your own devices and the guide above to figure it out. You'll be just fine, and just think , now there are two empty seats at the bar for you and a friend! One amusing piece of drinking news I did want to share. IF going to the Townhouse and laughing at the characters ( including you, including ME) isn't enough...now there's a (real) show! Hosted at a bar in Hollywood this comedic semi-improv interactive performance promsieds belly laughs and body shots ( not really- but I love the way that sounded) Check it out: DRUNK TALK Whats in name? 05/23/2010
There was a book published almost a year ago now I think.. . sure its in a vintage blog post here somewhere.. all about the different terms one can use for "drunk". Was workshopping this with some new recruits ( MC & D!) this weekend and thought I would share the wisdom: Barnoisseur-a discerning social scenester who has a rich knowledge of local watering holes and exhibits discriminating taste when choosing where to indulge. not to be confused with... Barnosaur-the older man at the end of the bar who may or may not have been sitting there since the Ice Age (use of ice cubes in drinks). Barllerina: flits, floats, leeps, tip toes from bar to bar with grace. Lushstar:Female in gender and notortious in nature. Famous for imbibement and antics, legendary stories from worldwide alcoholic adventures. THIS JUST IN: Free Mimosa on CitySipper 05/21/2010
Primativo- that of the wine and the tapas- on Abbot Kinney is bouncing into the brunch game. And with a generous garden-side outdoor patio, we can't think of a better place to sip away the weekend. To wake you up- CitySipper.com is treating you to a FREE MIMOSA with your brunch.. .if you know the secret word. This weekend only kiddos... so click on thru. Park It & Don't move it 05/21/2010
Because you read Yo!Venice, subscribe to Thrillist, FlavorPill, DailyCandy, UrbanDaddy, El Vino's newsletter and read Venice Magazine.. you know it's the Art Walk this Sunday. Which means for the locals: nowhere to park, 3 hour wait at Gjelina , strolling swarms in goofy hats on AK, and abundant food trucks. It's all good though...its a great cause and if I hadn't spent all my money on ahi tuna and cheap Chard at the Library Ale House last night- I might even spring for the $50 all-access pass. I'll cross my fingers that KCRW is giving away tickets I guess... So on Saturday, before you get quarantined to your precious street parking spot on Sunday, you might want to venture to the 90048. A joint called Silk Road is hosting an all you can TASTE sake tasting for $24: more info here Of course, you can always count on El Vino if you need to TASTE something locally, they 've got a variety of wine pourings on for $12. Enjoy the sunshine before the marine layer puts the Grey in May and the Gloom in June. Rain Rain Go Away & The Upper West 05/18/2010
Rain Rain Go Away… I have to taste some wine today. WTFLA ( best acronym EVER) Wine Tasking For Los Angeles is hosting a FREE wine tasting TONIGHT at High @ the Hotel Erwin from 7-9PM. Get the details from my pal over at Yo!Venice. In less urgent but no less important news…. We’ve been hearing and hearing about Upper West. I often eyeball it when I’m pulling out of Trader’s with a trunk full of frozen bargains, thinking “Damn I could stop for a drink, but then my truffle mushroom flatbread pizza will be sodden mush when I get home!” On Friday Chi and I strategically stopped by on our way home from work, and made it to the bar at 6- with an hour of Happy Hour to enjoy. Upper West has cool clean Cali design and a potentially poppin bar scene. The drinks are good, strong and cheap-I will let you figure that out for yourself…but what’s REALLY CRUCIAL here is the food. Don’t let the simplistic names fool you. Nachos are- perfect pyramids of lamb & love stacked on their own private individual chips. Wings are gorgeous little meaty nuggets in a divine curry sauce, served with a side of BLUE CHEESE incase you didn’t have enough. LAST BUT NOT LEAST. The fries: Delectable, sinful, drown in either Chipotle Cheese or Blue Cheese. Want crispy fires? Get over yourself and go to McDonalds- these are fork-demanding, taste-bud sexing potatoes from heaven. And no, I am not exaggerating. Tell those cute boys we sent you.... Upper West Happy Hour Mon – Friday 5:00-7:00PM The Happy Hour spreads to the Huntley 05/14/2010
I am just loving how the Happy Hour virus, formulated in our la-bor-a-tories in Venice has spread it's sweet disease up Pacific - Neilsen Way-Ocean to the beach front purveyors of Santa Monica. The appropriatly named Huntley ( mad singledom hunting grounds on the weekends) just announced Happy Hour on weekdays from 4-7 in their roof top bar/restaurant. The white-on-white-on-white bar promises special prices on drinks and apps, and of course, FREE SUNSET with every purchase. Too bad Owen Wilson and his posse of Hollywood dirty dicks don't hang out there anymore, I could finally afford to send him a drink! Sippin with Spade 05/14/2010
If you don’t know Jack ( Spade) then this Saturday is your chance to find out, AND we don’t have to leave Abbot Kinney ! YEY! I will be putting in a new lawn on Saturday morning so I will be full of spade references (so tan that I am black as…) ( digging in the dirt with my…) ( Josh @ the OR is funnier than David…) Anyway. Free drinks Saturday night at the new Jack Spade store which is in the building that used to be Kangol- and before that was some pseudo-British chicky shop and before that was um, test your knowledge on how long you’ve lived here and let me know who the great grandfather occupant was of this space. God knows they were probably only paying $500 bucks a month for rent. Jack Spade is proposing ping pong, serving hot dogs, and beer from 4:00-9:00 on Saturday. Sounds like summer to me. What to Drink, when you're not Drinking 05/11/2010
So I ran into Tim Robbins Saturday morning on Abbot Kinney ( yeah, really) and I invited him to have muesli and bacon with me at 3 Square Cafe but, he couldn't, cause he was on his way to get some " green juice" for a cleanse. Oh , Tim , c'mon now! Which reminded me that there ARE things to drink other than alcohol. And then I remembered this funny little piece I saw in Daily Candy... My favorite part is that they mention Advil as a supplement, which I used to refer to as " rockstar vitamins" in my New York lushstar days. So if you're in the mood to do a cleanse say, between the time you wake- up and happy hour, or January ( nothing happens in January except Couture shows in Paris) then try these RedCArpetCleanses. Evidentally, they organize it so you won't die of starvation- although your social life might! (and I bet they wouldn't taste bad with a shot of Vodka!) | TWITTER: VeniceHappyHrJOIN ME ON THE BOOK OF FACE
