Oh my goodness, back after a two week hiatus and having a think about where to drink this weekend. Forecast calls for 68 & sun- so strategically this means finding a wind-blocked patio with a sun-lit corner: The picture of the Erwin rooftop on my desk tor is driving me crazy!
Here are a few ideas: My BF Angel and I always celebrated Mother's Day- even when she wasn't a mama- we always wished each other a happy Motherf**kers Day and got drunk. Try it for yourself this Sunday at Wilshire- there's an open bar to go with Mother( Fr's) Day Brunch May 9, 11am-3pm, $55, Wilshire, 2454 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, 310-586-1707
When it gets Dark, Urban Daddy tells me the HH at Backstage ( DIVIEST ! bar in CC) has extended its happy hour from 4 to 8 PM NIGHTLY. $2 beer, $3 well drink or half-price heap of mac and cheese. Don't worry- no one will see you there.
And to top it off- Cache- that ever struggling spot a block down from Chaya is doing a late night HH Thu- Sat midnight- 1:30 AM. Their drink prices, aren't exactly CHEAP- but I am hoping the size of the drink makes up for the not-the-happiest hour cost. $7 Garden Lemonade (with thyme-infused vodka) OH AND THERE IS FOOD mason jars filled with olives ($3), duck confit ($7) or foie gras parfait ($8). Let me know....
Due to the "economy" (snore) I have watched almost all of my friends either lose their jobs, hang on to the job they have/hate with all ten fingers and toes, or launch into a new adventure. We may all be poor, but what we do still love is a cold drink, warm conversation, a cute bartender and a little something to snack on. Here's to us, the economically disabled but the fun enabled.
