Where does one take a French Canadian for Happy Hour? Lilly's! It's the closest thing to Frenchness we've got here in Venice and one of my longtime favorite spots. I've celebrated many a champagne-y ( thanks Dad!) birthday here, and am always shocked and pleased when they welcome me back. Eva and I perched at the bar last night just after 7:30, hoping to catch the tail end of their Happy Hour- which according to their website, goes to 8:00 PM. No such luck, drinks specials ended at 7:30- which is why RESEARCH IS SO IMPORTANT YA'LL! Regardless, Eva and I chose the cheapest bottle of pink bubbly on the menu to split (we're not fooling anyone by ordering by the glass) and a delicious proscuitto mozzarella pizza. It's always good to see Yon, who runs the place, he's the dashing one dashing around commanding the ship, and charming customers. As you know, a cute bartender is key to a good Happy Hour, and we had one of those too, AND as a special bonis treat, Pierre, our former Surf Instructor was part of the crew too. Not sure if it was the bubbly or bounty of handsome French men that made us giddy, but it was a lovely evening. Thanks Yon!
Due to the "economy" (snore) I have watched almost all of my friends either lose their jobs, hang on to the job they have/hate with all ten fingers and toes, or launch into a new adventure. We may all be poor, but what we do still love is a cold drink, warm conversation, a cute bartender and a little something to snack on. Here's to us, the economically disabled but the fun enabled.
